I just made this blog to document the 2 weeks before my gastric bypass surgery...and the life I will have after.
A (really small) piece about me.
I'm Dara. 25 years old. 5'2''. 275lbs. People say I'm kind, thoughtful, considerate, intelligent, funny, cute. I just see myself as fat. It overtakes my brain, and makes me feel like a failure. It's taken years to admit this, but I finally did. And the day I did, I started looking for solutions.
I did Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, South Beach Diet, low calorie, low carb...low sugar...just about every single diet possible. For the past 2 years I've eaten consistently low fat, small portions. And the weight continues to rise... Once I hit 250lbs, I knew something had to happen. So I started looking into gastric bypass surgery.
It's been about a year since the thought entered my mind. Since then, I've found an amazing surgeon and medical team (Dr. Wizman in Margate, FL). I've completed a 6 month nutritional program with Candace Chemtob. The endocrinologist has ruled out any thyroid problems or diabetes. And finally, on March 3, 2009, Aetna insurance sent me a letter that they will be covering my procedure.
The surgery is scheduled for March 31, 2009, which is now 2 weeks away. I'll post later tonight about the plan for the next 2 weeks.

Awww, Dara!
You are kind, thoughtful, intelligent, funny and cute. That's why everyone loves you. I'm so glad for you. It's a brave thing going through something like this; I'm just happy to see that this is your light at the end of the tunnel and that you're happier because of it. I wish you all the best!
Love,
--Pancake.
You somehow were able to fool everyone, even yourself into thinking that your weight didn't bother you that much. So happy you were able to finally see through this self defensive attitude. Not easy to do. Takes courage and being willing to make a change - Proud of you. Kick Ass Dar !
